In January 2012 I had the opportunity to travel to the Philippines with dear friends.
Ray and Wilma are a Filipino couple and very dear friends of mine. Mat and Mabel are very good friends from work. I have to say what an amazing time we had. First we travelled from China onto Manila, where we had a connecting 1hr flight up to Caticlan. From Caticlan we took a 10 minute boat ride to the beautiful island of Boracay. We decided that as most of the hotels were fully booked when checking online, we would just turn up and hope for the best. Ha ha, as it was a Friday we had difficulty finding anywhere too great but managed to get a couple of rooms in a back alley hotel. It did it's job for the night and the following morning we managed to find a nice beach front hotel. Here we stayed for the remaining 4 nights in Boracay and after 4 great days of swimming, island hopping, reef walking, snorkelling and lazing on the beach we headed back to Manila for our journey to Olongapo, Subic. This is the home town of Ray and with amazing hospitality from his family found ourselves living in a house 10 minutes walk from the beach.
We couldn't have asked for a greater welcome and if it wasn't for his family I am happy to say this part of the holiday would not have been the same. We travelled to the island resort of Grande Island for a relaxing day sunbathing and swimming, went to the Tree Top attractions for some zip sliding, canopy falling and trekking through the tree tops. We took some time to look around the city and drank many a beer in the warm clear nights.
Many a friend was made in the Philippines and it is a time that I will never forget. I am looking forward to the time when I can return to this amazing country with amazing people and amazing friends.
Ray, Wilma, Jo-Jo, Lyn, thank you so very much for an amazing time in your beautiful country.
