The Forbidden City
The Forbidden City was the Chinese imperial palace from the Ming Dynasty to the end of the Qing Dynasty. It now also houses the Palace Museum. For almost five centuries, it served as the home of the Emperor and his household, as well as the ceremonial and political centre of Chinese government.
As I entered through the main tunnel it didn't seem that impressive, but once away from all of the kiosks and tour guides the vast space hits you. This palace is huge with court yard after court yard, temple after temple and hallway after hallway. The palace is said to have nearly 9000 rooms, covering 72 hectares and in 1987 was declared a world heritage site.
The attention to detail in the architecture is nothing more than amazing and there must have been so much patience required to perfect it. But then again they were building it for their emperor so I suppose it had to be the best there was.
If ever you have the pleasure of visiting Beijing this is definately a must see.
